Should I buy iPhone 3G or the old iPhone?

Q. I’ve seen a lot of hype about the 3G iPhone, but it looks almost exactly the same as the one I have. What’s the real difference, and will it be more expensive? If they do the same thing, could I save a packet by sticking with a regular iPhone instead of the 3G one?
