It’s set to become one of the biggest gadgets of the year, with some even hailing yesterday’s launch as “an iPod moment”. Amazon Kindle 2 e-reader: it’s official!
February 9, 2009 by Insider Staff · 4 Comments
Amazon’s Kindle 2 has just been made available for pre-order on the company’s website in America, with a release coming in March. You know what that means, don’t you? Thanks to this e-reader you can burn all your books! No, don’t do that. We’re only joking.
The sequel to the popular Amazon Kindle, number 2 has a few nifty tricks up its sleeve to leave other e-readers looking more like comic books than the library of novels that the Kindle 2 is. First up is a nifty QWERTY keyboard. Then there’s 3G. But that’s just for starters – a tech amuse-bouche if you will.
Now your appetite’s been whetted, let us tell you what else the Kindle 2 offers. How about, 25 per cent more battery life than it’s big brother? You like that? Then you’ll love the fact that it can store up to 1,500 “books” in its tiny body (it’s under a centimetre thin!) – that’s almost ten times as many as the Sony PRS-505 e-reader!
That’s not the end of it though. You can even download magazines and newspapers to this bad boy. We reckon the Kindle could single-handedly ring the death knell for paper. Can you hear that sound? That’s the sound of librarians everywhere picking up their P45s.
Amazon hasn’t given a timescale as to when we’ll be receiving the Kindle 2 in good old Blighty, but they have confirmed that it will definitely be coming. We suppose that’s something!
