Sony S-Frame D100 review

April 16, 2009 by Insider Staff

Sony S-Frame D100Ooh sexy! The Sony S-Frame D100 is undoubtedly at the sharp end of the aesthetic scale where digital picture frames are concerned. Just look at the sexual appearance of that! Er, anyway. Can the features match the looks, or is it just all beauty with no brains? We investigate…

Pros
Okay, you might have got from that introduction that we’re loving the looks of the Sony S-Frame D100. But what’s it got going on part from the eye-pleasing aesthetics? Well, its build quality for one. This is about as solid as Chuck Norris after a ten hour gym session. Trust us, that’s solid. Plus the visuals are actually pin sharp. And thanks to an onboard orientation sensor (sounds flash!) you can see pics from wide angles!

Cons
Right, where do we start? Well, you do get 256MB of internal storage, slots for memory cards and a remote, and there’s also a USB slot. However, that USB slot is for hooking up your PC. You can’t put a USB stick in there and drop files. Then there’s no Wi-Fi. Come on, Sony. You can do better than that. And you can’t even import music. Tsk!

In summary then…
Hmm. Like Naomi Campbell, this looks great. But it’s hiding some real attitude. Jus tbecause the Sony S-Frame D100 looks like a super-model, doesn’t mean it can get away with second-rate specs. Where’s the Wi-Fi Sony? And how about better usability while we’re at it? Okay, it’s solid and looks great, and the picture quality is undoubtedly something to behold, but when it’s lacking so much on the feature front, it’s just not worth the extra outlay Sony’s asking for.
