Polaroid CPU-01015B Freescape review
April 14, 2009 by Insider Staff
The Polaroid CPU-01015B Freescape’s special trick is that it has something called “Simply Wi-Fi”. Does that make it more than “simply” a digital picture frame? How do you find out? Simply read on….
Pros
The Polaroid CPU-01015B Freescape is a reassuringly sturdy photo frame, if a little underwhelming to look at. As we mentioned in the pre-amble, it has “Simply Wi-Fi” connectivity which makes it unbelievably easy to stream picture, movie and music files to from your PC. Not progressive enough to stream? Well, it’s got enough slots to cope with all sorts of memory cards and USB sticks. Easy. Oh, and the built-in speakers aren’t terrible!
Cons
While the screen’s resolution is an impressive 800×480 resolution, picture quality can’t stand up to some other frames in this price range. For £130 you’d expect a sharper image, more detailed picture and less reflections.
In summary then…
While the Polaroid CPU-01015B Freescape feels solid enough to survive a fall after your half-arsed DIY attempt at securing it to the wall fails, its let down by poor picture quality, and ultimately all you want from a picture frame is to see your images as was intended. The simple Wi-Fi connectivity, and multiple methods of getting images to frame, however, is impressive. In fact, it’s so user-friendly that even Will Young would seem rude next to this.
