Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro review
April 7, 2009 by Insider Staff
Do you have a Mac of any kind? Are you itching for a webcam better than the one built into your iMac or MacBook’s screen? Need one full stop for your Mac Mini? You might want to take a look at the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam – it’s built especially for you!
Pros
First and foremost, the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro is designed to work with Macs, which is more unusual than you might think. It’s plug and play so you just slot it into a USB port and hit the ignition, and it’ll even work with iChat. The Carl Zeiss lens provides great image quality (720p HD video don’t you know), so you’ll want to use this as a little video camera for YouTube and its ilk, not just for face to face convos.
Cons
We’ve seen better built webcams than the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro. Pop it on the table and it balances surprisingly well (It even looks like Wall-E) but hooked onto a laptop lid it looms irritatingly, and offers only up and down adjustments – it can only look straight forward, like a horse with tunnel vision and blinkers.
In summary then…
It’s nice to see Mac users properly catered for at last (Are you listening, Microsoft?) with the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro, and anyone who uses a line that doesn’t have a webcam built in (Mac Mini and Mac Pro peeps, we mean you) should go ape for this. We look forward to a more flexible update, but otherwise this is a great solution, as well as the only one for Mac users.
