Olympus E-450 is world’s lightest DSLR

March 31, 2009 by Insider Staff

Olympus E-450Another day, another world’s lightest gadget. This time it’s the Olympus E-450 – a DSLR camera that’s lighter than a half wheel of cheese. We’re not talking Mini Babybel, but certainly a Bel Paese.

Anyway, we digress. Olympus’ E-450 camera weighs just 380g, earning it the title of world’s lightest DSLR. It’s not too dissimilar to its predecessor, the E-420, aside from a few noticeable boons – namely the ten-megapixel sensor, the 3.5fps shooting mode and three filter modes that have been pilfered from the company’s higher-end models (Pop Art, Soft Focus and Pinhole).

It’s not all rosy, for this miniature marvel, though. The Olympus E-450 lacks image stabilization for one, meaning you’ll either have to get a tripod our dose up on temazepam (and we’re not recommending the latter) to get non-blurry shots. There’s not even a video-shooting mode, and the 2.7-inch LCD is a touch small, but we can forgive it that.

Olympus has said that this’ll be hitting prospective paparazzi manbags this May. Until then you’ll just have to make do with your brick-like SLR. Roll on May…
