Twitter users tweet for free on Vodafone
March 27, 2009 by Insider Staff
Vodafone has teamed up with microblogging phenomenon Twitter to offer free updates via SMS message. That means Twitter users can both send and receive tweets for nothing.
SMS updates were a Twitter feature until last August, but now they’re back, at least for Vodafone customers. After registering their mobile number on Twitter, they can text tweets to 86444. This won’t cost a penny at first, but will eventually become part of Vodafone user’s text messaging bundle. Receiving updates, however, will always be totally free.
While Vodafone is currently the only mobile phone operator offering this service, other may follow in the future. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone says that the microblogging service “will continue to make arrangements with operators.”
