LG PC12DAB review

July 23, 2009 by Insider Staff

LG PC12DABThe LG PC12DAB sports a wealth of other audio talents aside from just being a dock for your iPod, seemingly offering credit crunch-beating value for money. Read on to find out how it fares…

Pros
The PC12DAB’s feature list is seriously stacked. As the name suggests, there’s DAB radio, and you also get FM radio, a CD player and a USB port compatible with WMA and MP3. Oh, and an iPod dock too, of course. That’s a nice little haul for the price. The design is also reasonably stylish and compact, with the curvy front panel and big red LED proving fairly eye-catching.

Cons
The sound quality can’t quite match the PC12DAB’s versatility, with the speakers delivering a disappointingly flat and undynamic sonic performance with slightly harsh-on-the-ears treble and near-non existent bass. It’s also a struggle to snag a clean DAB signal with the supplied antenna, with broadcasts regularly interrupted with annoying popping noises.

In summary then…
The PC12DAB looks eminently impressive on paper, mainly thanks to its reasonably low price tag and the amount of audio functionality it manages to cram into one small, good-looking box. But having CD, DAB, MP3 and iPod functionality doesn’t mean much when the performance is sub-par, and if sound quality is key you’d be better off with a simpler dock with better sound quality.
