Apple introduces new iPod shuffle. And it talks!

March 11, 2009 by Insider Staff

iPod shuffleApple has updated the iPod shuffle, quietly launching an all-new version with a new design, more storage space and a slew of new features.

The third-gen model comes with 4GB of storage, despite being just over half the size of the previous model. It measures up at 17.5 x 45.2 x 7.8mm and weighs less than 11g.

Apple has kept the size down by taking the playback controls off the body and sticking them on the headphone cable. The one exception is the shuffle control, a simple slider that sits next to the headphone socket.

Perhaps the standout feature of the new shuffle is VoiceOver, which tells you which song is playing as well as info like battery life and playlist names. It’s required because, like previous shuffle models, there’s no screen to give the user this information.

You can order the new 4GB shuffle from Apple now, priced at £59 for both silver and black editions.
