How to get more from your Pure Pocket DAB 1500 radio
April 1, 2008 by Insider Staff
DAB radio was always designed to be portable, but so much more can be squeezed from Pure’s pocket-sized digital tuner.
Get more from your pocket tuebox by following these simple steps and before long, you’ll be dancing in the streets. Just don’t blame us if people think you’re a bit, er, odd.
Step 1: Get ahead, get headphones!
The Pocket DAB 1500 includes Sennheiser headphones, but their in-ear design isn’t for everyone. If you’re serious about exploiting the full potential of DAB’s high quality sound a pair of over-the-ear headphones are worth a peek – they’ll exclude sound from the outside world, so you can enjoy programmes in squeaky-clean clarity.
For even better performance, check out noise-cancelling headphones. They pack special circuitry that’ll eliminate constant background noises, like aircraft, train rumbles and even whiney babies.
Step 2: Speaker freak!
The DAB 1500 is totally portable, so it’s ideal for trips to the park with mates. To make the most of it though, you’ll need portable speakers. Make sure they connect using a 3.5mm stereo connector, as the radio will use the cable as its aerial.
Step 3: FM fatale
As well as packing in DAB, the 1500 has an FM receiver. That means you’ll be able to pick up local stations and even ‘outsider’ broadcasts not found on DAB. Remember you’ll need headphones or a speaker plugged in to receive broadcasts though, as again, Pure’s radio uses its wire to pick up a signal.
Must have accessories
Leather case – Pure doesn’t make many accessories for the DAB 1500, but it’s worth investing in a leather case as it’ll keep the portable tuner pristine and protect it from the harsh knocks guaranteed to threaten pocketable pieces of kit.
