Magimix L’Expresso 11402 review
October 2, 2009 by Insider Staff
Magimix defies its slightly unfashionable image to deliver a user-friendly espresso-conjurer that wouldn’t shame a barista.
Pros
The replacement for the 11401 maintains that model’s tradition of clean lines, high pressure (19 bar) and a steam nozzle that’s about as much use as a car airbag made of bubblegum. A built-in Brita water filter should mean it won’t need much maintenance and the coffee it eventually turns out – there’s a wee bit of a wait, at least for the first cup – is really superb for the price.
Cons
Use of the steam nozzle is not recommended for those who find scalding unenjoyable. Its positioning and length mean you either need a cup the height of a grasshopper, or to lift up the entire machine. Some punters may also miss the 11401’s satin-brushed fascia although not, it must be said, us.
In summary then…
A wonderfully solid piece of work, the 11402 has a decent-sized, filtered tank, plenty of pressure and is very simple to use. It’s perhaps odd that a Magimix should score so highly, as the company is hardly known for its barista-friendly wares, but this is as good as anything on test, despite being just £150.
