Philips Cinema 21:9 uber-widescreen on sale this June

February 26, 2009 by Insider Staff

Philips Cinema 21:9Philips has caused quite a stir with its ultra-widescreen Cinema 21:9 screen, and according to Newlaunches.com the television isn’t too far off a UK launch.

The TV will apparently arrive on the 6th June, and we already know direct from Philips that it will cost €4,000 – or around £3,575 at the current exchange rate. Not cheap, certainly, but this is a 56-inch screen that does a truly fantastic job with true widescreen Blu-ray and DVD movies by cutting off the black bars you’d generally see on a standard 16:9 widescreen TV.

Spec-wise there’s a resolution of 2,560 x 1,080, 80,000:1 contrast ratio, 1ms response time and the full Philips Perfect Pixel HD Engine suite of image processing tech. You also get five HDMIs and Wi-Fi networking for media streaming and web access.
