Krups Nescafe Dolce Gusto KP210040 review

September 24, 2009 by Insider Staff

KrupsNescafe_mainFresh coffee made from pre-packed “pods”? It’s a concept that might have espresso purists reaching for the sick bag, but it saves hassle and whips up a decent cup in no time, as this machine shows…

Pros
You’ve seen them in the Come Dine With Me bumper ads, now sample the wares of these cartoonish-looking pod-based coffee machines, available in a range of colours from exciting black to sensual off-white. Unlike the Siemens, it makes the logical design leap of a coffee pod system and is wonderfully compact. It whips up a very creditable cappuccino in no time.

Cons
As with most pod machines, this isn’t for the purist, as you’re stuck with Nescafe’s notion of a perfect blend. The pods also aren’t especially cheap. The ‘cute’ looks aren’t going to be to everyone’s taste, and the 15 bar pump can’t quite nail a perfect espresso.

In summary then…
Krups used to be known the stark austerity of its designs, and maybe it should have stuck to that. However for 100 quid, assuming you don’t mind the looks, this is a bargain. If you’re not bothered about having the most exquisitely nutty, creamy coffee, its ease of use and compact footprint, allied to above average liquid results, make it worth a punt.
