T-Mobile snaps up Huawei’s iPhone-esque Android mobile
February 24, 2009 by Insider Staff
Hot on the heels of the official announcement of the HTC Magic Android phone comes news of another upcoming handset powered by Google’s open source operating system – T-Mobile is gearing up to launch an Android device with a large touchscreen in the autumn.
The phone, a prototype of which was shown off at the Mobile World Congress last week, is made by Huawei and boasts a design that, shall we say, is “heavily inspired” by the Apple iPhone.
According to Far East tech news bible Digitimes, T-Mobile liked the prototype model so much they’ve signed up to a manufacturing partnership with Huawei, suggesting that the phone will be a T-Mobile exclusive featuring the operator’s brand in place of Huawei’s – much like the T-Mobile G1, which was actually manufactured by HTC.
There’s no word on specs or pricing yet, but we’ll keep an eye (both of them, in fact) out for more on this in the run-up to launch.
