Asus “concentrating” on 10-inch Eee PC

February 20, 2009 by Insider Staff

Asus Eee PC 1000 HEBad news folks, Asus has said that it will only sell 10-inch Eee PCs from now on. That’s like Sony saying that they’ll only sell 32-inch tellies from now on; like Apple saying they’ll only sell 16GB iPod Touches; like Robbie Williams saying he’ll only ever perform Angels from now on. Ooh. Sorry. That last one gave us chills.

What that means is no more 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC. Confirming the news was the president of Asus Asia-Pacific who announced that the mini-laptop makers will now be concentrating on the 10-inch Eee PC netbooks from now on.

Behind the reasoning are the figures projected by Asus that the 10-inch Eee PC will account for a whopping 95 per cent of Eee PC sales this year, leaving the 8.9-inch 700 and 900 models with a just a 5 per cent share of that particular market.

It’s a shame, but at least we can take solace that Robbie Williams won’t just be singing Angels. Now if only we could get him to stop singing altogether…
