Nintendo DSi UK launch date announced!

The Nintendo DSi – Ninty’s all-singing, all-dancing handheld console – has finally got its UK release date, and we can tell you, for once, we’re getting something before our US cousins!

That’s right. The Big N has decided, in all its wisdom, to release the Nintendo DSi in good old Blighty on April 3. That’s the day that trapped princesses all over Britain will rejoice, and cruelty to mushroom organisations start to get busy again!

Japan has been enjoying the extra features the Nintendo DSi offers since the end of last year. Those include larger screens, a built-in camera, and an SD card slot so you can store the 0.3-megapixel images of your mates dressed up as Mario (if that’s what they’re into).

The DSi’s most exciting power-up, though, according to us at least, is the new online store that will allow you to download games designed exclusively for the DSi’s new features. It’s getting more and more like a handheld Nintendo Wii!

So, how much can we expect to pay for this piece of handheld brilliance? Well, expect it to set you back around £149, which is more than we expected, but still just about acceptable.
