How to Snap stunning ski holiday pics with your Canon IXUS 70

February 19, 2008 by Insider Staff

Canon Digital IXUS 70Canon’s dinky IXUS 70 is a great pocket-size snapper, but squeezing the most of it can still be tricky in awkward conditions, such as those on the slopes.

Follow our guide and you’ll get professional looking snaps every time.

Step 1: Stabilise yourself!
You’ll have enough trouble staying upright on the slopes without worrying about keeping the camera level. Invest in a mini tripod like the Gorillapod and keep your photos on the level. Its unique design will let you wrap it around stable objects, so you don’t even need a flat surface to take a decent picture.

Step 2: Suit up in waterproofs
Guard against your IXUS taking an early bath by investing in a waterproof casing for it. Sure, its unlikely to get submerged in water during a skiing trip, but this case will also make sure it stays free from damp, which is just as dangerous to its sensitive innards.

Step 3: Scene selector
You don’t need to spend ages fiddling with settings to get great shots from the IXUS 70, because of its pre-set scene modes and intelligent software. Just dip into them and choose landscape, portrait or the camera’s special ‘Snow’ mode for great shots that compensate for the lighting conditions.

Must have accessories

Gorillapod can be wrapped around whatever’s handy (even your ski pole) to take steady shots. Combined with your – The only tripod that works better without a flat surface, the GorillapodIXUS’s self-timer, it’s the best accessory to take great photos on the slopes.

Canon WP-DC13 Waterproof case – Guarding against dangerous damp on the slopes is a tricky business, unless you slip your IXUS inside this case. It’ll keep it clean, dry and safeguard your snaps.

More memory – It’s a photographer’s ultimate frustration: running out of memory when there are pictures just itching to be taken. Invest in a second, or larger single card and avoid being stuck on the slopes but unable to take pictures.
