iPhone nano. Fact or fiction?
February 9, 2009 by Insider Staff

Much like the Sony PSP 2, there have been more rumours about an impending iPhone nano than there have been Premier League footballers trying to get themselves deliberately booked. But how much of what we hear can we really believe? Is Apple about to wow the market again? Or will we have to make do with a load of iPhone impersonators?
Well, we’ve known for a while that Apple has been working on a new iPhone. Let’s face it, with the slew of new iPhone “assassins” on the way, Apple can’t exactly afford to sit back, reclining in a chair moulded out of money (that’s how we imagine Steve Jobs relaxes). There’s the Toshiba TG01, Palm Pre, the LG Arena and the new Samsung Tocco Ultra just to name four off the bat. All have touchscreen interfaces and all are reportedly the next iPhone killer.
So, what’s Apple got up its sleeve? Well, according to Peter Misek – an analyst with Canaccord Adams – Apple will introduce a 32GB iPhone 3G (that will look almost identical to its predecessor), a 2.5G iPhone for markets such as India and China, and finally – the most anticipated one – the iPhone nano.
Misek suggests that the iPhone nano will be about a third the size of the current iPhone, will be much more affordable (let’s face it, you couldn’t get much more expensive than the iPhone 3G and still expect to sell handsets), costing roughly two-thirds the price of the iPhone 3G.
All this sounds very interesting and intriguing, but they’re all still rumours. While we’d like to believe a nano iPhone is on its way, to suggest that it’d be a third the size of an iPhone doesn’t seem plausible to us… especially if your digits are anything like our porky prodders.
Still, as long as the competition keeps upping its game, so too does Apple. And that, ultimately, will see us reaping the rewards. And Apple, of course. How else will they make those cash-moulded recliners?
