Revo Blik RadioStation review

May 7, 2009 by Insider Staff

Revo Blik RadioStationThe Revo Blik RadioStation is a true jack-of-all-radio-trades, combining the virtues of DAB, FM and Wi-Fi Internet radio in one compact, lightweight box. It may look like the illegitimate spawn of a LEGO brick and a Toblerone, but it’s got more skills than Cristiano Ronaldo. To find out what this radio’s skills are, read on…

Pros
Why have FM and DAB? Well, FM can actually sound better than DAB if you can get a perfect signal. And Internet radio? Well, that just means you have access to thousands more digital stations via your broadband connection – a fine bonus, particularly if you have a taste for niche music genres. Every conceivable style is catered for online. You have a penchant for Peruvian pop? You got it. Love Albanian speed garage? You’re in luck, because the Revo Blik RadioStation can pick them up!

Cons
The plasticky body and single speaker doesn’t make for particularly stirring audio quality, sadly. While the sonic output isn’t terrible, it lacks the beefy dynamism of some weightier rivals. That, really, is the only weakness of the RadioStation – unfortunately, it’s a fairly significant one.

In summary then…
Like a MacGuyver of the radio world, the RadioStation is a resourceful fella. It can’t build a Chieftain tank from three logs, a sink and a length of duct tape but its many talents make it a fantastic all-in-one solution (the Wi-Fi means it can also be used to stream digital music from your PC or Mac). But do bear in mind that the audio quality is more local pub band than London Symphony Orchestra, meaning it’s no match for the Vita Audio R2. You can use the stereo line outputs to connect it to a more powerful hi-fi if dynamic audio is a must, though – and in all other areas it’s an impressive product.
