Vita Audio R2 review
October 1, 2009 by Insider Staff
You just have to look at the Vita Audio R2 to know you’re getting a DAB radio of substance. The solid build quality and that walnut design would suit pretty much any room in your abode, but ultimately you want to know about sound quality, ease-of-use and all that shizzle. WIthout further ado, we present the Vita Audio R2…
Pros
What is it with DAB radios and their walnut finishes (see the Tangent Cinque)? Don’t get us wrong, we really like it on the Vita Audio R2. It also comes in a glossy cream flavour (is anyone else hungry?) and has a distinctly retro feel. It delivers top class stereo sound with more bass than a fish farm, more warm mids a Brazilian beach, more and crisp, clear highs than a Welsh choir. FM and DAB tuners are included, plus line inputs for connecting up an external audio source.
Cons
For the money you might expect a built-in CD player as well, but otherwise there’s little to quibble about here – it’s one of only a few desktop DABs that succeeds in combining top performance with mouth-watering style.
In summary then…
If you’ve got the money and the walnuts to drop on a top DAB then stick this high on your list. Yes, it’s a bit tough on the old wallet, but it ticks all the major boxes when it comes to sound quality, ease of use, spiffing design and walnut exterior. It’s a fantastic audio performer that’ll look the part on your kitchen worktop or bedroom shelf. To use a cliché and sound like a footballer, it’s the Rolls Royce of the DAB world, at the end of the day.
