Marantz launches high-end BD8002 Blu-ray player
January 30, 2009 by Insider Staff
Welcome to the Blu-ray revolution Marantz. The BD8002 is the company’s first foray into the High-Definition revolution, and what a foray! This Blu-ray bad boy (or triple B as we like to say) is capable of spinning discs at a Full-HD 1080p, at 24 frames per second, which results in a picture so clean you’d think your eyes had been doused in Optrex.
So what’s so sensational about this machine? Well, for starters, the price! It’ll set you back around £1,800. Considering you can get Blu-ray players for ten times less, that is a lot. Still, this is a high-end machine, and what you get is high-end features. As we said it produces 1080p pictures at 24fps, but it also offers Dolby Digital Plus, Doldy True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
Of course, there’s DVD upscaling (given that Marantz has only been churning out upscalers since Blu-ray hit the market that was going to be a given), which makes your old Dad’s Army discs look sparkling thanks to a Digital Noise Reduction feature.
What else? Well, if money buys versatility, then you definitely get that here. The BD8002 can play VCDs, SVCDs, MP3s, WMAs and DivX video files and JPEG images. The only snag (apart from the high price, that is)? It doesn’t support Blu-ray Profile 2.0. It’s still only 1.1. But, if that’s not on your list of priorities, then this is one awesome, high-end Blu-ray spinner.
