Samsung M8800 Pixon review
September 16, 2009 by Insider Staff
Samsung’s been producing all-round mobile phones for a while now, but nothing worthy writing home about. Maybe the i900 Omnia, but not much more. The M8800 Pixon is hoping to change that with its 3.2-inch touchscreen, accelerometer, eight-megapixel camera and a fistful of other extras. So, can the Pixon throw off the shackles of a stupid name to become a success? There’s only one way to find out…
Pros
Eight-meg camera, touchscreen, slimline looks… hang on, it’s the Renoir again. Ah, but no. The Pixon feels less plasticky, has a smoother interface and is generally more fun to use. The camera is also excellent and the GPS is one of the least annoying we’ve seen in a do-it-all phone, although still not up there with what you’d get on a proper smartphone. Could this be – whisper it – a true iPhone beater?
Cons
…Well, with only a few hundred megs of internal storage, a slightly lacklustre media player and a battery of piffling endurance, perhaps not.
In summary then…
The best multi-media phone to be made outside of Cupertino, California is a delight to use, has a good, if not outstanding media player and a touchscreen that’s like the missing link betwixt your fingers and your brain. The eight-meg camera is another very solid addition, and you should be able to get this free on contract without having to shell out for a horrific monthly tariff. A real winner form Samsung and by far its best touchscreen phone.
