Sony PSP 2 incoming with a touchscreen?

Sony PSP
No matter how many times Sony denies it, the rumours about a new Sony PSP – like a nasty sexual infection – just won’t go away, which is why we’re starting to believe them.

After yesterday’s news of the, ahem, Carnival PSPs, this latest rumour would have us believe that the PSP 2 will have a widescreen multi-touch interface (we’re sure Apple won’t have anything to say about that!). Citing “credible sources” IGN is reporting that an new version of the handheld console is on its way and that multitouch screen is its big boon.

Whether the traditional PSP controls will remain is still a mystery, but the analogue stick and Xross Meny Bar would no doubt be welcomed by traditionalists who fear change more than death itself. Plus, they would be pretty handy if backward compatibility was being considered.

These rumours come hot off the heels of a Sony survey that was leaked to PSPFanboy, asking for the gamer’s opinions on features such as GPS, PS3-PSP file transfers and the biggy – a touchscreen interface. Whether all this is hear say, we’ll find out. One things for sure, with the Sony X-Series Walkman boasting a pretty snazzy touchscreen itself, we know Sony can do it…
