Panasonic Lumix compact cameras outed…

You know how it is: you’re slumped in a sofa covered in crisps thinking, “I could teach them photographers a thing or two, if only I had the money,” well your out of excuses now, because Panasonic’s new line-up of Lumix digital cameras is here to sort you out.


Let’s start with the DMC-FT1. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket, but is tougher than a Chuck Norris-Steven Segal clone. It has a 12-megapixel sensor, 4.6x zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD. It’s waterproof to three metres, drop-proof to 1.5metres and erm, 100 per cent proof if you drop it in Absinthe.


Next up is the FX550. Touting a 5x zoom and 720p video capture, this sexy compact has a three-inch touchscreen with haptics – how else would you know it’s working? It also has face recognition, and you can store photos by person!hrow in a 12-megapixel sens and a 25mm wide-angle Leica lens and you wonder where Panny’s hiding it all. If you don’t fancy the touchscreen, the F40 is a similar, skinier, model, but without the touch talents.


The TZ7 and its smaller brother – the TZ6 – are next up, with their abilities to shoot video in AVCHD Lite format. The TZ7 shoves in a 12x optically stabilized zoom, a 10-megapixel sensor in its slight frame, as well as face detection and image stabilization. All these cameras will be available from April.
