Sanyo Xacti HD2000 and VPC-FH1 hands-on

January 22, 2009 by Insider Staff

Sanyo Xacti HD2000Sanyo announced its new range of camcorders last night, introducing some world firsts to boot. We got up close and all handsy with the company’s first full HD progressive scan camcorders (ooh, get you!) capable of filming at 60 frames per second – the Sanyo Xacti HD2000 and VPC-FH1.

Both models are extremely impressive camcorders. The HD2000 has a pistol-grip design and looks like a sort of thing James Tiberius Kirk might use to kill a stone monster in Star Trek. The VPC-FH1 is less amusing, with its more traditional camcorder design.

On the insides they’re full of Sanyo’s most advanced technical wizardry, allowing them to film at the very best quality for up to three hours and 20 minutes without a pause. That’s longer than Kevin Costner’s The Postman. No doubt what you film will be infinitely better than that!

On first impressions, we prefer the pistol-alike HD2000. It’s super-steady whilst filming, it’s reassuringly chunky in the hand and has a 16x zoom inside. It’ll even take eight-megapixel stills. That’s impressive. Something else that’s impressive is our hands-on gallery below. Take a look…

Sanyo Xacti HD2000
This is the Sanyo Xacti HD2000. You can tell that from its pistol-grip design. That flip out screen handily shows menus packed with stats!

Sanyo Xacti HD2000
That big old lens will capture your home movies at 60 frames per second in Full HD progressive scan. All of which means your flicks will be ultra-smooth and ultra-crisp.

As you can see from this snap shot, the HD2000 is fairly chunky, but it doesn’t feel too heavy, and in fact is reassuringly solid.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1
The Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1 doesn’t look as exciting as the pistol-grip-styled HD2000, but it is still packed with plenty of hi-tech goodness. Natch!

Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1
The VPC-FH1 has a flip-out, twistable screen as well as HDMI outputs to show off what you capture on your big screen HDTV. No better way to check out self-portraits. Ah!

Both the VPC-FH1 and HD2000 have easy-to-use buttons that are just the stretch of a thumb away, so you don’t miss any of the action, such as your kids kicking their dad in the groin. Classic stuff!
