Sony VAIO P netbook hands on
January 21, 2009 by Insider Staff
The Sony VAIO P netbook had the covers rudely whipped off its slender shell earlier this week at CES in Las Vegas, and no sooner than it was shown to the public than it was bundled into a box and sent across the Atlantic for us to get our grubby mits on. Check out the hands on photos after the jump!
The VAIO P has all but reinvented the netbook. It’s got far better specs than your average Eee, Mini or Wind, but it’s even smaller, at just 635g in weight. It’s still got an eight inch widescreen though, with a sparkly 1600×768 resolution that would put many a desktop to shame, as well as the usual connectivity tech including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even 3G to access t’internet.
The Sony VAIO P is available to pre-order now at various specs and pricetags ahead of a February launch, but if you want to see what you’ll be handing over at least 850 notes for, check out our hands on gallery below.
We can’t think of a better word to describe the VAIO P than “titchy”. It’s incredibly slim and thin – you genuinely could slip this into a jacket pocket.
It still packs a full QWERTY keypad though – space is saved by replacing the trackpad with a trackball.
Two buttons by the cursor speed things up immensely. The left hand one pulls up every open application alongside each other, while the right launches media instantly, so you don’t have to boot up Windows Vista to watch a video.
The VAIO P’s screen is small, but no less stunning for it – you can make icons bigger though to avoid a severe case of squintyitis.
Smaller than an average netbook, but yet more powerful. You’re looking at the future of mobile computing right here.
