Panasonic unveils new compact digital cameras

January 16, 2009 by Insider Staff

Panasonic FS15Panasonic was all quiet on the digital camera front at CES, but it’s made up for the lack of serious snappers today as it’s revealed no fewer than four new compact digital cameras, the FS6, FS7, FS15 and LS85. See what specs they’re all sporting, after the jump!

First up, we’ve got the FS6 and FS7 sister shooters, toting 8.1 and 10.1 megapixel sensors respectively. On board, both have a F2.8 Leica DC lens and a 4x optical zoom, plus the usual Lumix tech like Face Detection and image stabiliser to prevent a case of Mr Blurrycam, but the new feature here is that both will run off plain old AA battery juice, so when you run out of shots you won’t have to run home to recharge.

Next off the Panasonic compact conveyor belt is the LS85, a low end, AA battery powered point and shoot that’s not to be smirked at – it’s got the same imaging technology as the former pair, 8.1MPs and will fire off 4.5 shots a second in burst mode.

Pick of the bunch though is the FS15, with a hextremely high-res 12.1MP sensor slotted in, and a wide angle Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom for hilarious close ups of dogs. Unlike the others though, this one carries the standard li-ion rechargeable battery, re-assuring for all but the most casual of camera users. They’re all due out from February, and as soon as we get word of price we’ll let you know.
