Intel Classmate comes with a twist
January 12, 2009 by Insider Staff

We don’t remember school being like this. It’s come along when since the days when the most hi-tech piece of equipment you’d find in your classroom was a half-broken snooker cue that the teacher would slam on your desk if you weren’t paying attention. No? Just us, then. Anyway, we digress, because Intel is set to release a twisty laptop for classrooms called the… wait for it… Intel Classmate.
Specs on the imaginatively named laptop-cum-tablet PC are still largely unknown, but what we do know is that it will be sporting a twisty touchscreen, similar to that seen on the Asus Eee T91, that is capable of flexing around a full 180 degrees back on itself, so that it can be converted into a handy little tablet PC.
The other bit of info we have about the Classmate is that it has a “Palm Recognition” feature, which will ignore multiple prods and slaps – something that over-excited school kids are prone to doing. Somehow (using some clever tech that probably only Intel and Stephen Hawking understand) it recognizes specific prods over palm slaps.
No pricing as of yet, but as soon as Intel reveals the cost of its twisted genius, you’ll be the first to know.
