WowWee upgrades Robosapien
January 7, 2009 by Insider Staff
What’s the main purpose of a robot? To perform duties that are too dangerous for us? To take on the menial tasks that we haven’t got time to do? All of the above? Perhaps. But we prefer our robots to amuse us. Step forward the Joebot.
Joe’ is WowWee’s latest version of the Robosapien, and he’s their slickest android so far. Forget the Spidersapien, this is the number one ‘bot on the block. But what makes him so special. Well, aside from the fact that he can duel with you with remote controls (oh yes!), he has he most fluid movement across the floor of any Robosapien we’ve seen.
He’s fast and clever too. If he’s on the verge of falling over, built-in sensors will warn him and he’ll adjust to stop him from tripping up. It’s clever stuff. Of course he’ll still be able to dance, and you can even control the little fella with previous Robosapien remotes.
But the piece de resistance, the cherry on top of the cream pie, the reason we love WowWee, is Joe’s ability to… beatbox! Oh yes. Get ready for some 80’s style tunes coming your way. Now this is what robots should be designed for.
Other WowWee robots we love
Wrex the Dowg
This little fella’s so cute. He’s a bit like a Scrapheap Challenge version of a bulldog, with his car exhaust tail and spinny fruit machine eyes. He’ll even have the odd funny turn, sometimes purring like a cat.
Spidersapien
Essentially, this is Robosapien wearing Spider-Man pyjamas. The difference here is that he now comes with a range of special functions, including the ability to spout some famous Spider-Man lines. Web-tastic, no?
Tribot
This little guy gets his name from the triumverate of wheels he has that allow him to move in any direction at speed. His special abilities include playing games such as Pattern, Maze and Minefield and animating his eyebrows like a Marx brother.
