Samsung Android phone scheduled for 2009
December 19, 2008 by Insider Staff
A trickle of Android mobile phones expected in 2009 is rapidly turning into an avalanche. While none of them may beat the Kogan Agora past the post, massive companies like Sony Ericsson, Asus and Toshiba all appear to have a Google powered phone in the pipeline, and we’ve now just got word that Samsung will enter the fray in the first half of 2009 – get the details inside.
South Korean gadget giant Samsung has just announced it’ll be launching an Android operated phone in the US by the end of June next year on the Sprint and T-Mobile networks across the pond. No leaked images yet, and few definite specs are available, but it looks as though the device will be a mashup of the touchscreen Omnia and Instinct handsets – your standard black bar with no buttons then.
Still, we’ve almost reached the point where the technology isn’t as important as the software it runs. The exciting prospect of a rehashed Omnia is Google’s open source operating system, and the potential for thousands of programs to rival the iPhone App Store at a fraction of the cost. If all goes down well in America, expect a launch here in Blighty too.
