LG GCF399BUQ Silver
August 21, 2009 by Insider Staff
LG has taken the standard fridge-over-freezer design and jazzed it up with some luxury features. That’s all well and good, but if it doesn’t perform like a fridge, then they’re all redundant. So, how does it do?
Pros
LG has always given us products that are aesthetically-pleasing. And this fridge-freezer doesn’t disappoint of the chilled eye-candy front. It’s taken the fridge-over-freezer design and jazzed it up with some luxury features, like an LCD window and a water cooler in the door, not to mention the attractive silver finish. It will fit into a standard 60cm wide space and makes a net capacity of 315 litres available inside. It has fully adjustable shelving and some cleverly designed compartments for eggs, dairy products and vegetables, but its unique selling point is clearly the water chiller. It’s an unusual feature to find on a fridge at this price point, but it’s well implemented here in the LG’s substantial door, so you won’t hear us complaining one bit. Now, anyone for some cold water?
Cons
It looks very flash, but the water cooler takes up a bit of room inside the fridge, so much so that the overall capacity isn’t as great as it could be for such a large unit. But now we’re being picky…
Overall
This is a great step-up fridge that doesn’t actually cost much more than the basic budget models. LG has blessed this one with a very handsome silver finish that’ll match all your other stainless steel appliances. With the large LCD temperature guage and drinks dispenser built into the door, it looks like a far more expensive piece of kit than it actually is. Open it up and you’ll see it doesn’t have quite as much room as some of the other similarly sized fridges, but it still looks impressive with all the neat compartments. Seriously, this hi-tech fridge is so cool, it’s practically sub-zero.
