Kenwood KDW12ST3A Stainless Steel

Kenwood KDW12ST3A Kitchen peripheral experts Kenwood hop onto the dishwasher bandwagon with a super-stylish machine. How does it fare? Read on…

Pros
You can’t accuse this of being struck with the ugly stick. Kenwood has given its dishwasher an extremely slick, minimalist stainless steel outer shell. The front panel is uncluttered by knobs and dials, with the upward-facing door-mounted control panel hidden from view when the door is closed. All you can see is the crisp LED display. And to be honest, that’s all we want to be able to see. You can set the timer to delay the washing cycle until you go out and there’s plenty of flexibility with six different washing programmes to choose from. It can take the standard 12 place settings on its two shelves, with the upper one being height adjustable, so you can fit almost anything on the bottom one. Importantly, it bags a AAA energy rating too, so you won’t be wasting money on energy bills, but more importantly, you’ll be helping the planet.

Cons
At 53dB, this is quite a noisy machine – 50db is generally considered to be the acceptable upper limit. That steel finish looks great, but it’ll be more difficult to keep clean of grubby finger prints.

Overall
Kenwood doesn’t have a big slice of the dishwasher pie, but this machine certainly looks like a strong contender. The stainless steel finish and smooth front fascia look fabulous and much more in keeping with your precision engineered steel oven as well. It’s certainly energy efficient as it has the A ratings to prove it, but the high noise level suggests that it doesn’t have the smooth mechanics to match some of its rivals. Still, if you’re all about the looks (and slightly deaf) this would be a superb option.
