NavGate satnavs more than just maps

December 11, 2008 by Insider Staff

NavGateWhen it comes to satnavs, all too much attention is paid to the portable type. Your average plug and go GPS comes with a screen too small to see and is all too liable to being stolen if you forget to remove it. If you’ve got the money going spare, much better to get one installed, and the cream of the built in crop right now is the Pioneer NavGate range: they’re not just satnavs, they’re the ultimate in-car entertainment kit.

As you’d expect, the NavGate AVIC 500BT, 700BT and 900BT will all get you from to A to B, but in this case, A and B can be anywhere in Europe thanks to the continental wide maps stored on flash memory. Directions have never been clearer either on the vivid 5.8-inch touchscreen they all come with.

But that’s just the start of the TomTom-toppling talent. You can put that screen to far better use, playing DivX movies, MP3s, DVDs and anything else an iPod can handle – you can plug one in to the back and stash it conveniently in the glove compartment, after all. And it’s all upgradeable too thanks to the SD card slot on each. The NavGate range is out now, starting from £500.
