Creative Vado HD camcorder incoming

If you thought Flip had the budget camcorder market sewn up with its range of one button flash memory boxes, guess again. Creative has been cutting in with its own series, the easy to use Vado, and the latest offering, the Vado HD, offers 720p high-def recording for eye-bursting visuals at a price that’s anything but high.

The point of micro camcorders like the Flip and the Vado is ease of use rather than image quality, but we’re not complaining if the Vado HD manages to offer both for a low price. Press record and it’ll shoot for two hours at 720p resolution at a lifelike 30 frames per second onto the 8GB of storage onboard. Drop your content onto a computer with the pop out USB connector, or sling it straight onto a high-def telly via the HDMI port – it even comes with an HDMI cable to save you an extra trip to the AV shop.

If you were put off by the Flip’s tiny screen, you’ll be pleased to hear the Vado HD boasts a 2 inch LCD panel so you can see precisely what your audience will once you upload to Youtube. It’s not out in the UK, but if the US price tag of $200 remains intact, Flip looks to have a serious contender for the crown on its hands.
