BlackBerry Curve 8900 on sale before Christmas

December 9, 2008 by Insider Staff

BlackBerry Curve 8900The touchscreen BlackBerry Storm mobile phone was a journey into the unknown for business phone maker RIM, but it’s back to what it does best with the BlackBerry Curve 8900, offering the typical top class push email we’ve come to expect with some serious multimedia skills mixed in.

BlackBerry addicts will instantly recognise the Curve’s slim form and full QWERTY keypad for rapid mobile mailing, but there’s a few welcome additions too. GPS, integration with popular web services such as Facebook and Flickr, as well as Wi-Fi to let you make the most of the net’s power in your palm, though unlike the Storm and the Bold, it’s sadly lacking 3G speeds for when you’re out of hotspots.

Best of all though is the Curve’s media handling abilities. An onboard microSD slot can inflate storage up to 16GB, and the 2.4 inch screen squeezes in a sparkly 480×360 resolution to playb ack all those videos you can store. Sound-wise, there’s a 3.5mm hole for your fave headphones, as well as Stereo Bluetooth for superb sonic without the cables. It’s available from the Carphone Warehouse from the 20th – just in time for Christmas.

Top talents

Back to basics
The famous BlackBerry keypad is far easier to bash out emails on than anything else on the market.

Push it real good
BlackBerry’s push email service will integrate with up to ten email accounts to help you stay connected at all times.

Media monster
The Curve 8900 takes the multimedia juggling skills of the Storm and puts them on a handset that a business owner will want to use.

Going up against
BlackBerry Bold – With 3G net speeds, this still may be RIM’s fruit of choice for those in the know.

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB – The ultimate multimedia mobile, but touchscreen typing isn’t for touch typers.

Nokia E71 – Nokia’s business model is QWERTY enabled and a serious rival for RIM’s crown.
