Medion Akoya comes with Blu-ray built in
December 5, 2008 by Insider Staff
Computer maker Medion has never really got the credit it’s deserved for taking top-end technology and making it affordable, but we’re hoping that’s about to change with the release of its Akoya 8610 laptop, which packs a Blu-ray drive for Hi-Def video handling, at a price that won’t have the bank manager screaming for your head. More details inside.
Medion hasn’t skimped under the bonnet: inside there’s a powerhouse graphics processor in the form of GeForce 9600M GS to chomp up games and video editing apps no probs, while a solid 4GB of RAM will ensure you can juggle them all at the same time should the urge take you. A speedy Intel Core 2 Duo chip and 320GB of hard drive space to park all your music and movies finish off the internal spec sheet nicely.
At 18.4 inches, it’s almost a desktop replacement, and certainly large enough to watch movies on comfortably, but even with a max resolution of 1680×945 and integrated Dolby Home Theatre tech, you won’t quite get the full effect of 1080p HD on it. Thankfully, there’s an HDMI port for plugging it into your flatscreen, and unleashing Hi-Def hell. It’s all yours for £799 from Blockbusters and Tesco’s online store.
