Sony VAIO VGN-Z11WN/BSony laptops have always been strong performers. Find out here whether its latest VAIO laptop measures up to its predecessors. Read on…

Pros
This is a fantastic looking laptop designed for life on the move. The first 13.1-inch screen, which means it has a perfect 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. The built-in DVD rewriter means you can watch movies on the move, which you’ll find look great on the screen. Performance is more than satisfactory, courtesy of the latest Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 chip and 4GB of RAM. However, it’s the battery life well in excess of seven hours that makes this 1.5kg laptop the perfect travel companion.

Cons
There are no real problems, only minor compromises; the keyboard can feel a little cramped at times and connectivity options only the cover the basics.

Overall
Compact ultra-portable laptops tend to throw up as many compromises as solutions but the VAIO VGN-Z11WN/B is simply an amazing laptop. The keyboard can feel cramped at times but the individually mounted keys, which punch their way through the body of the chassis, have a fantastic typing action. When on the move you can switch between dedicated and integrated graphics, with the difference being an extra three hours in battery life. It has everything the average traveller needs, including a DVD rewriter built into its compact frame. Sony has set a new benchmark in ultra-slim laptops and one it may find difficult to beat itself.
