Eee Box to get HD facelift
December 3, 2008 by Insider Staff
Asus’s little Eee PC netbooks have completely revitalised the Taiwanese company in the last year, but their bigger brother desktop computer, the Eee Box, hasn’t been faring so well – which is probably why there are plans afoot to release two even smaller versions with Hi-Def super-powers.
The new Eee Box B204 and B206 will both be able to handle HD video with no problem at all. But that’s not all. They’ll also be packing a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3400 graphics card. Rolls of the tounge, no? What that means is it’ll throw out some smooth HD graphics. Both models will also have 160GB hard drives to store all your movies and music, as well as N-standard Wi-Fi and an HDMI socket. Where the B206 improves on its younger brother is the added bonus of Bluetooth and a built-in battery for back up.
In other Asus news, the current Eee Box has had a price price slash to a wallet-tempting £160. According to the latest price quotes from the company out East, a new version of the all-in-one Mac Mini masher is due shortly for $240 – roughly £160 with current exchange rates. Hard disk space is being bumped up to 120GB from the measly 80GB, so you can store more music and movies without hassle too, and we’re always welcome to paying more for less.
How is Asus managing this cost cutting feat? Inevitably, it’s through compromise, as it’s scrapping the nippy little Atom Processor for a Celeron 220 chip, but if all you need is a desktop to browse the net and write documents, this will handle all your needs for a steal. If you’re prepared to pay a bit more though, we recommend the Eee Top – all the power of an Eee Top, with a touchscreen monitor built in!
