Asus launches Quad Core laptop
December 2, 2008 by Insider Staff
There’s no shortage of laptops out there, but what makes a decent gaming notebook? First off you need a powerful processor, not to mention plenty the memory, and don’t even get us started on the graphics card! One laptop that promises to be king of the fragging hill is the G71, which Asus claims is the world’s first quad core gaming notebook. Read on for the spec list…
So what’s going on inside the G71’s shell to make it so good for gaming on the go? Its Intel QX9300 Core 2 Extreme processor for one, which provides clock power. Then, of course, it has a top NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT GDDR3 512MB graphics card, which makes all those whizzing bullets and explosions look sharp. And finally it has a nice, big 17-inch screen so you don’t strain your sensitive peepers. And, just in case you get bored of your gaming, there’s also a Blu-ray drive to keep you entertained with some glorious HD movies.
Top talents
Gaming performance
Thanks to the Intel QX9300 Core 2 Extreme processor, the G71 delivers blazing-fast gaming on the fly, with maximum responsiveness and minimum lag.
Dual hard disk
The G71 is big enough to accommodate two hard drives, all of which means that it has 500GB of space for storing your music, files and, ahem, specialist movies.
Dual display
Equipped with a 17-inch full HD display that boasts ultra-quick 8ms response times to eliminate ghosting, the G71 also has dual lamp for extra brightness and is supported by a secondary screen so your gaming goes uninterrupted.
Closest rivals
Acer Aspire 6920
The spec isn’t as impressive as the G71, but it’s cheaper, has a 16-inch TFT screen and a Blu-ray player.
Dell Inspiron XPS M1730
This 17-inch bad boy from Dell totes an Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 processor, so it’s quick. Not as quick as the G71, but still impressive.
HP HDX18-1005EA
It may not be as good as the G71 for gaming, but it can match the Asus when it comes to storage space with its 500GB hard drive, and betters it in terms of screen size, with a 18.4-incher.
