Divvy up your music with the Sonos ZonePlayer
November 26, 2008 by Insider Staff
Got a hard drive filled to the brim with MP3s? Playing them off your computer is a stop gap solution at best, and while you can hook the audio up to your hi-fi, if you really want to make the most of your music catalogue you need a media centre to act as go between. Let us introduce you to the Sonos ZonePlayer ZP120, the smartest way to send sound from anywhere all around your home.
The ZP120 acts as a hub for your home sound system, streaming MP3 and WAV tracks to up to 32 ZonePlayers in different rooms, and juggles separate songs for each, so you can listen to Luther in the dining room, whilst humming along to the Killers in the Kitchen. Plug your speakers straight in and it’ll act as an amplifier too, while PC/Mac software or a separate Sonos Controller will let you browse thousands of internet radio stations and create your own playlists through Last.fm.
Top talents
Wicked watts
The ZonePlayer offers up a whopping 55 watts per channel for added audio power.
Multiroom music
Using the Sonos Controller’s intuitive iPod-alike scroll wheel, you can choose different sounds for every room you’ve got a ZonePlayer box sitting in.
Unlimited Napstering
It won’t play DRM-heavy iTunes music, but it will support Napster subscription songs, offering up millions of tracks for legal playback.
