Samsung YP-Q1 Diamond spotted and played with
November 11, 2008 by Insider Staff
Apple might be the mogul of the MP3 player realm thanks to its iPod dynasty, but Samsung is hoping to take a swipe at the iPod nano’s crown with its new flash memory media player, the YP-Q1 Diamond.
Its nano-toppling talents include a bigger screen, more juice and even special movie playback talents. All for less cash than Apple’s midget muso. Read on to get the full lowdown…
30 hours of battery life for music, combined with either 4, 8 or 16GB of storage for soaking up tunes is alluring enough, but this is more than just a portable jukebox. The 2.4 inch screen was designed for mobile movies – no conversion’s needed, just chuck your video on there. It’ll even play downloaded content from iPlayer, making this a must for catching up on last night’s TV on the trot.
Prices will start at £60 for the 4GB model, and promises to gyrate its way on sale by the tail-end of next week. We’ll keep you posted.
Top talents
Commuter computer
The YP-Q1 comes loaded with maps of almost every subway system in the world, so you’ll always know where to go.
iPlayer player
Few players have the technology to handle DRM-heavy iPlayer content – the Diamond does.
Diamond control
The Diamond’s diamond D-pad rivals the iPod click wheel for style and ease of use.
Going up against
Apple iPod Nano 16GB – Same capacity, smaller size – it’s the teeniest iPod yet.
Creative Zen X-Fi 16GB Black – Stream your media to your player via WiFi.
Sony NWZ-S639FS – Boasts a beast of a battery – 40 hours of audio and 10 for video.
