Olympus serves up E-30 SLR

November 13, 2008 by Insider Staff

Olympus E-30If you’re serious about photography, a digital SLR is an absolute must, and as the technology behind them becomes mainstream, even mid-range models are becoming affordable. Take Olympus’ new E-30 for example, packing more megapixels than Britney has episodes.A 12.3 megapixel sensor and 11-point autofocus are handy features on high-end snappers, but you can get them both in the E-30 for £800 – a moderate price for moderate times. It’s first time user friendly too, with Live View offering 98% accuracy compared to the viewfinder, so you can shoot from the hip when this arrives in January.

Learning curve
An accurate Live View LCD will show you what you’re shooting, just like a compact.

Rapid fire
Shoot at five frames per second, so you won’t miss any of the action.

Mid-range on budget
You won’t get more tech slotted into an SLR for less than £800.

Going up against:

Canon EOS 450D – This 12.2MP SLR is now a perfect budget introductory model.

Nikon D700 Black – A high end, top notch model for semi-professional photographers.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 – The newest medium SLR on the scene.
