Ask the expert: Christmas shopping
November 7, 2008 by Insider Staff
Q. I’m Christmas shopping for the family. My kids are gadget mad, but my partner is more of a gardener. What presents would you recommend?
A. Christmas shopping can be a chore, can’t it? Luckily PriceRunner covers so many categories you’ll be able to find something for everyone without ever leaving the site, and at great prices too. We’ve had a hunt through the gardening, gadgets and toys sections to root out some of the best bargains for your faily.
Solution 1: Best for gadget-mad kids
If you want a peaceful Christmas, get your kids an iPod touch. Apple’s fancy touchscreen music player is guaranteed to keep them amused for hours since it doesn’t just pump tunes through the headphones, but also performs wonderfully with video and can entertain them with games from the built in Application Store too. If that doesn’t satisfy them, they can use its built-in Wi-Fi abilities to surf the web, so they can check their MySpace without hogging the family PC!
Best option: iPod Touch – From £138
Solution 2: Best for green-fingered partners
If you’re giving a gardening-themed gift, it shouldn’t come with connotations of hard labour. Instead, buy something that’ll take the grunt work out of gardening, like the Black and Decker Alligator Powered Lopper. It’s a combination pruner and chain saw, that pinches branches before powering through them. There’s nothing else like it, and its guaranteed to make your loved one’s agricultural activities much easier in 2009!
Best option: Black and Decker Alligator Powered Lopper – From £97
Solution 3: Best for gardening perfectionists
If your partner’s gardening relies on perfectionism rather than raw power, give them the Bosch Isio Edge Trim System, it’s a neat gadget that’ll leave lawns looking sculpted and professional. Anyone can mow a lump of grass, and with a little patience most can get it looking lush and green, but ask any professional gardener what makes a winning lawn and they’ll tell you it’s the attention to detail and pride in neat edges that really makes for terrific turf. Bosch’s cordless gadget means they’ll have razor-sharp edges every time.
Best option: Bosch Isio Edge Trim System – From £66
