Microsoft BlueTrack mouse kills mousemat

October 31, 2008 by Insider Staff

Microsoft ExplorerThe best ideas are always the most simple, and the computer mouse is one of the most elegantly obvious peripherals out there. The concept never changes, but the technology inside does, and Microsoft has just come up with its Explorer range of wireless mice tailored for travellers and laptop users who need one that will work on any surface.

Microsoft has ditched lasers in favour of its new BlueTrack technology, which uses a glowing LED instead. The result is a mouse that will respond perfectly on any surface you drag it on, even rough granite. Two models are scurrying onto UK soil shortly, the Explorer (£69.99) and Explorer Mini (£49.99).

Blue Velvet
BlueTrack LED technology means your cursor will glide like silk, regardless of the surface.

Bin the batteries
The Explorer model is fully rechargeable, so you can cut the cords from your life.

Pop-in wireless
You can snap a mini transceiver in, giving you signal up to 30ft away from the computer – perfect for presentations.

Going up against

Logitech LX8 Cordless – A wireless whizz that costs just half the price of an Explorer.

Microsoft Hub laser gaming mouse – Already has the blue light look covered.

Logitech Trackman Wheel – A rollerball means you never have to worry about surfaces.
