TomTom Go Live service taken for a spin

October 31, 2008 by Insider Staff

TomTom 540We always knew that satnavs could do a lot more than simply get you from A to B, but TomTom is hoping to carve a slick new route with its latest Go Live range, which comes with a boot-load of services that’ll not only get you where you want to go quickly, but cheaply too.

Launching in November, the 540, 740 and 940 Go Live models all stomach TomTom’s smart integrated Live services, which keep you updated with the latest traffic news, Google search by location and even IQ Routes to calculate your best journey depending on the time of day. Lay out a bit extra for the 740/940 models and you can even get pre-installed maps covering Europe and even North America.

Top talents

Time sensitive – IQ Routes will find the proven fastest route at any time of day, so you can rush by rush hour traffic.

Net connection – Google search to find the nearest roadside nosh or petrol prices in the area.

Real time satnav – Anonymous Vodafone user data lets Go Live models work out where the jams are right now, and updates you every three minutes.

Closest rivals

TomTom One V4
– TomTom’s latest tried and tested classic is still half the price of the cheapest Go Live model.

Garmin StreetPilot 7200 – A whopping seven inch screen means even the short-sighted have no excuse to get lost now.

Sony NVU-72TW – A multimedia satnav that comes with plenty of storage space for music too.
