Shaun White Snowboarding for Wii; hands on

October 28, 2008 by Insider Staff

Shaun White SnowboardingComputer games just got a whole lot more fun. Shaun White Snowboarding takes the balance board from the phenomenally popular Wii Fit and uses it for what it really was meant to do: to simulate throwing yourself down a mountain at speed on a plank of wood.

Leaning backwards or forwards on the board, you twist, ollie and grab your way down the piste, and you can even jump with a quick bounce of the knees. The cartoon visuals are far from realistic, but don’t be fooled: this could be the most authentic sports game ever when it launches on November 16.

Top talents

Balance board boarding
Lean back and forth to turn as you would on a real slope.

Physics fun
Shaun White Snowboarding uses the Assassins’ Creed game engine, offering incredible physics despite its silly looks.

Multiplayer mountain
Play up to 15 other opponents online in one race.

Going up against
Wii Fit – Not quite as high octane, but uses the balance board brilliantly while helping you stay healthy.

Rock Band – Can the balance board peripheral compete against an entire musical set?

SSX Blur – The current top snowboarding silly sim on the Wii.
