How to exploit the secret skills of your iPhone 3G

April 24, 2009 by Insider Staff

iPhone 3GThe iPhone 3G has tons of extra abilities beneath its finger-friendly surface. Follow our simple how-to and you’ll unlock those hidden talents and be impressing your friends in no time.

Step 1: Grab that screen!
If there’s something on the iPhone’s screen you want to share with friends, hold down the home key and tap the power button. The screen will flash, and the phone will save a screen grab into its camera roll. Dive into the Photos application to view it.

You can even tap the ‘use’ button to e-mail it to friends, or share via MobileMe – perfect for grabbing a picture of Google Maps in action, so your mates will know where to meet you.

Step 2: Save a photo
Browse the web on your iPhone and it’s likely you’ll come across a picture you’d like to save, and thanks to Apple’s new firmware, you can! Just tap and hold on an image and you’ll be given the option to save it.

Once it’s stashed in the iPhone’s memory, you’ll be able to view it again in the ‘Photos’ application. From here you can share it with friends, or just keep a record of it for yourself!

Step 3: Secure your iPhone!
Dive into the Settings menu, and select General, followed by Passcode Lock. Here you can set a four-digit PIN to protect your phone from unauthorised users. Even better, you can set the iPhone to completely wipe itself of personal data if the PIN is entered incorrectly more than 10 times. That means you can be safe in the knowledge your phone book, e-mails, photos and personal details are completely safe from phone thieves.
