Top of the tree
Nokia 6300
Best price: £99.85 on 4 March 2008
Is it really any surprise to the see the Nokia 6300 sitting pretty at the top? Not really. Sure, it may not have a formidable feature set like its N95 stablemate but its classic candybar design and solid metallic shell has incredible everyman appeal. Its two-megapixel camera and EDGE download speeds aren’t to be sniffed at mind, but it’s Nokia’s famed ultra-user-friendliness that’s the clincher.

Rising star
Nokia N82
Best price: £339.99 on 4 March 2008
Essentially, the powerful N82 Symbian smartphone is the N95 but with a photographic twist – it’s the first Nokia phone to sport a bona-fide Xenon flash. Team this up with a five-megapixel Carl Zeiss lens and you have one of the best camphones on the market. But it’s not just a sharp snapper – built-in high-speed Wi-Fi and GPS for sat nav add to its burgeoning rep.
Up against: Sony Ericsson K850i
Unsung hero
Sony Ericsson K810i
Best price: £214.99 on 4 March 2008
Its Cyber-shot compadre, the K850i may boast more megapixels (five to be exact) but the 3G-toting K810i is still a sharp shooter. A year on and it still ranks as one of the better 3.2-megapixel camphones doing the rounds with a Xenon flash and unique BestPic and PhotoFix picture technology to polish-up your snaps.

Loved by experts
HTC TyTN II
Best price: £459.99 on 4 March 2008
The experts have undoubtedly been bowled over by the HTC TyTN II’s formidable features and for good reason. Sure, this Windows Mobile powered touch-screen smartphone may be a hulk-of-a-handset but its spacious QWERTY keypad for emailing, built-in Wi-Fi, turbo 3G download speeds and three-megapixel snapper make it a powerful business tool. Oh, did we mention it has GPS for sat nav too?
