Navman S70 3D
September 2, 2009 by Insider Staff
The Navman S70 3D busts out of the 4:3 screen ratio most satnavs come with with a lovely widescreen 4.3 incher – is it as good as it seems? Find out in our full review.
Pros
Here’s another company that is rapidly becoming a navigation favourite. The S70 3D is a good value GPS that boasts a generous 4.3-inch display, Bluetooth connection and lots and lots of UK and European maps. Route calculation and display are especially reliable – with nice touches such as showing the nearest house number on long roads. Navman is currently offering to upgrade the S70 3D’s current 2008 maps for free next year, saving you the usual £70 price-tag. Voice guidance is calm and accurate. NavPix lets you associate locations with digital photos (or download photos from an online library) to navigate directly to destinations just by touching an image.
Cons
To be honest, none really at this price, although the much-touted 3D graphics of famous landmarks like the London Eye could prove as distracting as they are useful.
Verdict
The S70 3D has almost every feature you could need in a navigator including a Bluetooth phone link and TMC traffic (costs extra). The speed camera database is both complete and prominently displayed when you near a fixed camera position – if you’ve got a heavy foot, you could save the cost the Navman within months. There are lots of points of interest and good battery life (4.5 hours) if want to take the S70 3D for a stroll. Overall, it just pips the Garmin to the post as our top choice.
