Sony Walkman NWZ-A828
October 16, 2008 by Insider Staff
Sony’s A828 may have half the screen size of an iPod Touch but it still costs just as much. See if it’s worth the cash in our full review.
Pros
Sony’s latest Walkman player aims to unwire your ears, thanks to a pair of Bluetooth headphones that let you keep the player safely tucked away in your bag while listening. That’s too bad, as the svelte (9.3mm, 58g) metal player oozes style. Its 2.4-inch screen is sharp and vibrant and both the in-ear buds and on-ear Bluetooth cans supplied sound (just) good enough to keep. This is really is one of the best sounding MP3 players out there – try it up against an iPod and even Apple fanatics might be converted.
Cons
The Sony’s price-tag looks steep next to the feature-packed iPod Touch, although remember that you won’t need to buy new headphones for this Walkman.
Verdict
Battery life is the best on test: reaching 36 hours for music and a mighty 10 hours for video, although both figures plummet when using the Bluetooth headphones. Luckily, there’s a dedicated button for toggling it on or off in seconds. For PC owners not initiated into the cult of Apple, dragging and dropping your music files to the A828 using Windows Media is simplicity itself. Video is a little trickier but worth the wait – files look as amazing as they sound. A stunning, if pricey, player that should satisfy anyone who loves music.
